This blog post shares some insights on an international Erasmus+ project between Oulu University of Applied Sciences and Fontys University of Applied Sciences that took place in spring 2023. The project consists of one week period at the OAMK campus, a 13-week virtual period, and one week period at Fontys campus in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. During the project, the student teams design and implement a web or mobile application. The blog post describes both the cultural aspects and some aspects related to education in the partner university. The post includes selected comments from student feedback and observations from the teacher’s point of view. It sheds light on demand-based teaching which is practiced at Fontys University.
As in many other sectors, within the field of dental hygiene the development and growth of professional skills is a vital goal in which workshops and tutored practical training are playing a key role. Practical implementation of the workshops and contents of practicing may vary between universities, although the principles and objectives are quite similar. Participation in an exchange period is an excellent way to get new professional and personal perspectives and experiences, strengthening individual competences as well as learning more of the foreign country and its’ culture.
Because of restrictions in travelling and having meetings there is a need for virtual ways to tell people what we do and what are the possibilities we offer. For that reason we decided to make a video, kind of a virtual tour with narrative of our printed intelligence laboratory – PrinLab.
